Design Brief
The museum’s architecture is conceived with a human-centered approach, featuring stepped volumes that descend toward the plaza to create an inviting entrance sequence. A triple-height lobby, anchored by a sculptural wooden spiral staircase, leads visitors to the exhibition areas on the first and second floors.
The first floor includes a large double-height gallery alongside two smaller, flexible exhibition spaces. On the second floor, the galleries are adaptable and open onto a green terrace. An elevated plaza at the first level acts as a public extension of the lower plaza, offering the possibility of both public and private connections to the galleries.
Service areas are strategically embedded into the hillside, reducing the perceived building mass. The uppermost level accommodates events, conferences, and a bar, all beneath a green roof with panoramic views. Above, a multifunctional observation tower—the “lighthouse”—marks the culmination of the visitor’s journey.
The Corten steel façade is designed in response to the coastal climate. Sustainability is central to the project: rainwater is harvested and reused, native vegetation is integrated into the landscape, and sustainable mobility is promoted through bike ports and pedestrian-friendly access.
